A stye is a lump inside or on the border of the eye.
A stye often manifests as a red, inflamed lump close to the border of the eyelid, caused by an infected eyelash follicle. When the stye is inside or under the eyelid, it is called an internal hordeolum.
A stye is formed when the output of lipid glands increases and the tear gland widens. Then, the tear canals are filled with fluid.
Styes can also form farther than the border of the eyelid. Symptoms of a stye usually include pain in the eyelid, redness in the zone, accompanied with irritation and itching in the eyes. Other symptoms of a stye include:
- A red lump on the border of the eyelid in the base of the lashes
- Feeling of a foreign body in the eye
- Light sensitivity
- Crusting at the border of the eyelid
- Tears
Around 25% of cases of stye have no symptoms and go away on their own without any treatment.
Symptoms are treated with one of the following methods:
- Топли компреси;
- Antibiotic creams
- Стероидните инжекции;
- Surgical removal
