
At Vereya Eye Medical Centers, diagnostic and treatment activities are carried out with a commitment to fully respecting patients’ rights and, above all, protecting their human dignity.
Every patient who seeks medical assistance from us has the RIGHT:
- TO RECEIVE timely, adequate, and high-quality medical care, regardless of gender, age, ethnic origin, religious beliefs, or cultural background.
- TO KNOW the name of the doctor(s) responsible for their treatment and the name of the nurse who is caring for them or coordinating their care.
- TO BE INFORMED about the nature and prognosis of the illness, as well as the purpose of the necessary examinations and treatment. When the patient is in a condition that limits their ability to understand this information, or when it is medically inadvisable to provide such information directly, it shall be given to their legal representative or guardian.
- TO ACCEPT OR REFUSE the proposed examinations and treatment, to be informed about existing alternatives for diagnosis and treatment, and to have the freedom to choose among them. The patient may exercise the right to refuse the proposed examinations and treatment within the framework of the laws in force in the country, after being informed of the adverse medical consequences of such refusal.
- TO BE EXAMINED AND TREATED PROMPTLY through methods and means approved by medical science and using technically sound equipment, and for SUPPORTIVE CARE TO BE PROVIDED with the necessary skill, attention, and respect.
- TO BE GUARANTEED the confidentiality of information relating to their medical condition, and for consultations and discussions related to their diagnosis and treatment to be conducted discreetly.
- TO RECEIVE FULL INFORMATION AND EXPLANATIONS when they need to be referred to another medical institution.
- TO CONSULT with other persons if the hospital management proposes including them in a clinical trial of new methods and medicines related to their diagnosis and treatment, and to refuse participation in such a trial.
- TO BENEFIT from the support of family, relatives, and friends during their treatment.
- TO BE INFORMED of the clinic’s internal rules and of the obligations concerning their conduct as a patient.
- TO BE INFORMED about the costs of their treatment, regardless of the source of payment.
- TO RECEIVE GOOD MEDICAL CARE in the hospital when in a condition close to death, so as to complete life’s course naturally and with dignity.
- TO LODGE COMPLAINTS with the Ministry of Health, the Regional Health Insurance Fund, the regional leadership of the Bulgarian Medical Association, and the hospital administration when the rights set out in this CHARTER have been violated.
For patients under 18 years of age or placed under legal guardianship, the above rights shall be asserted by their legal representatives insofar as they cannot be requested or exercised by the patients themselves.
