Blepharoplasty (plastic surgery of the eyelids) is one of the most performed procedures in the sphere of aesthetic surgery. It aims to remove signs of aging and tiredness in the zone around the eyes. The skin of the eyelids is extremely thin, which means that they often show the first signs of aging. The laxity in the upper eyelids and the so-called eyebags in the zone of the lower eyelids can be removed definitively.
All patients (men and women) over 45 years of age are candidates for this surgery. In younger patients, lower blepharoplasty can be done transconjunctivaly, i.e. without incisions on the skin of the eyelid. In those cases, the postoperative recovery period is brought to a minimum and sutures are not needed. Patients usually have some swelling right after the surgery and in the first week after that. Sutures for a standard blepharoplasty are removed between 6 and 20 days after the surgery, depending on the resorbtion time.
