Oculoplastics (from oculus /Latin/ – eye) is a surgical specialty dealing with various problems in the periocular area. These may include abnormalities in the position of the eyelids – ectropion or entropion (turning of the eyelid margin inward or outward), ptosis (drooping of the upper eyelid), injuries, and tumors.
Benign and malignant tumors of the eyelids and the periocular area are among the most common pathologies within the scope of oculoplastic surgery. Through various surgical techniques, the tumor is excised within healthy tissue, after which reconstructive surgery follows to restore the lost tissues, i.e., blepharoplasty.
