Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dzhelebov, MD, PhD has finished his higher education in VMI, Stara Zagora. Since 2009, he is a Doctor of Medicine with a specialty in ophthalmology.
Prof. Dzhelebov is a specialist in laser treatment of eye diseases, as well as surgical treatment of cataracts with the application of intraocular lenses. He performs diagnostics with ocular laser scanner and treats glaucoma surgically. He is a specialist in diagnostics and treatment of retinal disease, as well as laser treatment of myopia and hyperopia.
He also works in the Ophthalmology Clinic of the Medical Faculty of the Trakia University, Stara Zagora. Since 2009, he is chief of the Ophthalmology department of Trakia hospital – Stara Zagora, where Prof. dr. Dzhelebov works with a young and ambitious team, familiar with the newest and most established protocols for diagnostics and treatment of ocular disease.
Ophthalmological consultations are done in the professor’s private office in Stara Zagora, Metodiy Kusev boul. 9 after a booked appointment.
The office of prof. dr. Dzhelebov has modern equipment – a device for screening of children (checks eyesight of children after 6 months of age), OCT, 532nm green laser, 1064nm YAG laser and others.
Highly technological tests are conducted, such as wavefront analysis of the eye with the most precise device in the country, corneal topography, optical coherence tomography with a state-of-the-art eye scanner for early diagnosis of glaucoma and retinal diseases.
Routine diagnostic procedures and treatments: biomicroscopy, ophthalmoscopy, gonioscopy, computer perimetry, visualization and documentation of the posterior ocular segment (so-called fundus), measurement, analysis and recalculation of intraocular pressure (in glaucoma), exophthalmometry, collection of secretions for microbiological examination, removal of foreign bodies from the conjunctiva and cornea, subconjunctival injections, probing for lacrimal duct stenosis.
Many surgical treatments are done on both congenital and acquired diseases – cataract surgery and corneal refractive surgery (vision correction).
The department has the only femtosecond laser for refractive surgery in the country – VisuMax, from the industry leader Carl Zeiss. It allows us the possibility to correct a wider range of refractive errors compared to the old technology with mechanical microkeratome. Through it, vision correction, called LASIK, becomes a painless and precise, fully laser-based procedure.
Prof. Dzhelebov works with the National Health Insurance, OZOF Doverie ZAD and Generali Zastrahovane AD.
